This week on Twitter, The Lucidicus Project posted highlights from conservative talk-radio host Michael Graham's new book, That's No Angry Mob, That's My Mom (Regnery Press, 2010; 259 pp).1 The subject of the book is the liberal media's practice of painting average conservative Americans as nutty ingrates for disagreeing with the policies of the President and his administration. The subtitle of the book is "Team Obama's Assault on Tea-Party, Talk-Radio Americans."
No Angry Mob is a very quick, lite, and funny read. I was drawn to it because I am familiar with Michael Graham from his radio show here in Boston, and because I was present at some of the events he describes in the book, such as the 2009 Tax Day Tea Party event in Boston. Graham's background in comedy certainly helps him get the most mileage out of the raw material provided to him by the left. The book is unmistakably written in his voice (some of the humor may be lost on those who have not heard his radio show).
Here's what we Tweeted. Note that in most cases these are my distillations, not direct quotations from the book.
- The right rejects its own kooks; the left adores theirs and promotes them to positions of power and influence. (p29)
- Obama sees the independent American character as a problem to be solved. (p54)
- 48 million talk radio listeners is pretty big to dismiss as "fringe." (p62)
- Obama's view of health reform dissenters: "You're either with the plan, or in the Klan" (p63)
- At least a mugger doesn't waste your time arguing he's doing the right thing. (p71)
- It's hard to socialize medicine when responsible citizens keep insisting they want to buy their own insurance. (p72)
- The left wants people to "get over their sense of individual responsibility." (p77)
- Team Obama combines the arrogance of Dr. House with the intellect of Sonya Fitzpatrick, Animal Communicator (p96)
- Tea Party types choose Aristotle over Foucault. (p114)
- Dare to call the government takeover of healthcare socialism? Crazy talk! (p123)
- FOX isn't "MSNBC for the right." That would imply that it is as irresponsible as MSNBC. (p147)
- Tea-partying, townhalling, talk-radio-listening Americans are here to stay. (p244)
Tweading this book was purely an experiment. If you enjoyed it, let me know and I will do the same with other books on my to-read list (particularly health policy-related titles or the healthcare chapters of popular titles).

1 I have no idea if "tweading" is the right twitterism, but that is what I have decided to call it.
